The Vedic deity Agni (god of fire) and the Sun are both associated with this nakshatra, also knows as “the Star of Fire”.
In yogic tradition there is the concept of tapasya, this means willingly taking on a lengthy process of endurance, for example, fasting, meditation or adherence to ritual, thus generating inner fire for purification, wisdom and enlightenment. Krittika gives us the willpower and fire to accomplish such a task by applying our desires to a higher cause.
Obviously, fire ceremonies and fire rituals fall under Krittka’s domain.
Any flame or cooking fire can be kept clean and holy and thus worshipped as Agni for our concentration and purification.
The energy of this nakshatra makes us passionate and proud, attractive, famous, strong, persistent and ambitious. We must examine ourselves to see how we apply these inclinations.
A sharp knife or sword is one of the traditional symbols for Krittika, thus cutting out, burning and removing our old behaviours, habits and thought patterns are indicated here again.
Once we have accomplished a level of purity and wisdom, we can become excellent teachers under Krittika’s influence.
